Healthcare for All 

Studies have shown that, on average, Michiganders spend approximately 20% of their income on healthcare expenses.  As healthcare costs have continued to increase and marketplace insurance premiums rise (nearly 20% this past year), families in Michigan are being forced to make tough choices like not enrolling in health insurance coverage to avoid costly premiums, not attending medical appointments or getting preventative care to avoid high co-pays and deductibles, taking on medical debt to afford necessary and life-saving treatments, or rationing medicine to avoid skyrocketing drug costs. 

Simply put, the current private healthcare market is out of control and it's time the government stepped in to make it right for Michigan families.  This is why, as your state representative, I will support the MiCare legislation.  This legislation will:

Ensure every Michigander has affordable comprehensive healthcare coverage, including hospitalization, mental health care, dental care, reproductive health care, and prescription drug coverage.

Streamline existing federal, state, and private healthcare funding sources to a single payer system that is publicly administered so that overall administrative and overhead costs can be reduced, healthcare prices can be negotiated to lower rates, and out of pocket expenses like co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, and unexpected medical expenses can be eliminated for Michigan patients.

Improve the quality of healthcare being provided to Michigan patients by setting and enforcing standards of care based on the most recent and updated available science, for providers within the MiCare provider network.

Allow providers to maintain their autonomy and patients to maintain their freedom to choose their own doctors within the MiCare provider network.

In a world-class country like the United States, it’s time we build a world-class health system that Americans are proud of and stop letting it continue to run like the wild, wild west.  As you’re your state representative, I’ll help Michigan lead the way.
