As your state representative, I’ll fight to ensure Michigan’s families’ paychecks keep up with costs by:

Continuing to Increase the Minimum Wage: In 2025, Governor Whitmer signed into law Public Act 1, which gradually increases Michigan’s minimum wage from $12.50 an hour to $15 an hour by January 2027. As your representative, I will fight for the next increase in the minimum wage to ensure it keeps up with inflation.  

Creating a State Child Tax Credit that Doesn’t Leave Out Michigan’s Working-and Middle-Class: Today, 17 states provide their residents with a state child tax credit in addition to the $2,200 federal tax credit.  Michigan is not one of them.  Many states are doing this because the current structure of the federal tax credit benefits higher income families and prevents families of nearly 1 in 4 children, or 19 million children in the US, from receiving the credit because their family income is not high enough. In Michigan, 582,000 children under the age of 17 are ineligible for the $2,200 federal tax credit because their family incomes are too low. As your representative, I will fight for a state child tax credit that is based on fairness and benefits those left out from the federal tax credit -- Michigan’s working and middle-class families.

Creating a State-wide Paid Family and Medical Leave Program for Michigan’s Workforce: Michigan’s hardworking families should not have to choose between caring for a new child, addressing their own serious illness, caring for a seriously ill family member, or foregoing their entire pay. Yet these are decisions most Michigan workers are forced to make at some point in their lives. As your state representative, I will fight for the development of a state-wide paid family and medical leave program that ensures hardworking Michiganders don’t have to worry about making ends meet while forging through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
