He was raised in a family that worked hard to make ends meet his mom had him young, and his grandmother played a big role in helping raise him while his mom worked to build her life. That experience shaped how he sees the world and why he believes people who do everything right should still be able to get ahead.Rick has spent his career in public service organizing, working in government, and most recently in education staying close to the people and communities he’s fighting for. You see quickly what’s working and what’s not. Too many families are being stretched thin, dealing with rising costs and systems that aren’t delivering the way they should.That’s what pushed him to run. He’s not interested in politics, he’s running because he’s seen how decisions made in Lansing affect real people, and too often those decisions aren’t being made with them in mind.Rick and his wife Kimberly live in Corktown, where they’re getting ready to welcome their first child this June. They also have a dog, Atticus, and a cat, Roman. This moment in his life makes this work even more personal he’s thinking about the kind of future they’re building for their family and for families across the district.As a leader, Rick will be focused on results fighting for working people, being clear about where he stands, and staying accountable to the people he represents.

Government should work for the people, not special interests.I will fight to get money out of politics, strengthen transparency, and build on Michigan’s voter-approved reforms to ensure every voice is heard and every elected official is accountable to the people they serve.

If corporations take public dollars, they should deliver for the public.I will require prevailing wages, support skilled trades and union jobs, and prioritize local hiring on publicly funded projects. And when companies don’t deliver, they will be held accountable because our tax dollars should work for us, not just boost profits.

We spend billions treating illness we should invest in preventing it.I will expand Michigan’s existing Food is Medicine programs, partnering with healthcare providers and community organizations to improve health outcomes and lower long-term costs.

As your state representative,&nbsp;I’ll fight to ensure Michigan’s families’ paychecks keep up with costs by:Continuing to Increase the Minimum Wage:&nbsp;In 2025, Governor Whitmer signed into law Public Act 1, which gradually increases Michigan’s minimum wage from $12.50 an hour to $15 an hour by January 2027. As your representative, I will fight for the next increase in the minimum wage to ensure it keeps up with inflation.&nbsp;&nbsp;Creating a State Child Tax Credit that Doesn’t Leave Out Michigan’s Working-and Middle-Class:&nbsp;Today, 17 states provide their residents with a state child tax credit in addition to the $2,200 federal tax credit.&nbsp; Michigan is not one of them.&nbsp; Many states are doing this because the current structure of the federal tax credit benefits higher income families and prevents families of nearly 1 in 4 children, or 19 million children in the US, from receiving the credit because their family income is not high enough. In Michigan, 582,000 children under the age of 17 are ineligible for the $2,200 federal tax credit because their family incomes are too low. As your representative, I will fight for a state child tax credit that is based on fairness and benefits those left out from the federal tax credit -- Michigan’s working and middle-class families.Creating a State-wide Paid Family and Medical Leave Program for Michigan’s Workforce:&nbsp;Michigan’s hardworking families should not have to choose between caring for a new child, addressing their own serious illness, caring for a seriously ill family member, or foregoing their entire pay. Yet these are decisions most Michigan workers are forced to make at some point in their lives. As your state representative, I will fight for the development of a state-wide paid family and medical leave program that ensures hardworking Michiganders don’t have to worry about making ends meet while forging through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

If the cost of living goes up,&nbsp;a new child is welcomed into your home, or you or a family member becomes seriously ill,&nbsp;working families shouldn’t fall behind. I will fight to make sure wages keep up with real costs, and tax credits and financial supports working families need are available to them. We must stop the trend of hardworking Michigan families falling further behind every year.
